While most people spent their Civic long weekend with family and friends, the Northumberland OPP were kept extremely busy out on the roads.
235 charges were laid including 10 charges for failing to move over for an emergency vehcile. The province put a focus on the “move over act” for the long weekend to help keep emergency vehicles, tow trucks and cars pulled over on the side of the road safe. This charge had a fine of $400 to $2,000 and three demerit points.
Other charges included 149 speeding charges, 10 seatbelt charges, one distracted driving charge and a handful of others.
