This year Canada broke records when it came to blue flag certification.
27 beaches and 9 marinas will be flying the sign of eco excellence this year.
Joining the ranks of eco excellence is Victoria Beach in Cobourg, receiving our flag for the 3rd time.
Blue Flag Program Manager with Environmental Defence Kelsey Scarfone explains how the world known certification breaks down its criteria.
Scarfone says any beaches or marinas wanting the certification, need to apply.
She says it also offers vacation goers peace of mind.
When a beach or Marina is interested in earning a Blue Flag, they send in their application into Blue Flag Canada who then sends it to a national jury of experts.
Also joining Canada’s record-breaking year is Trent Port Marina in Quinte West, who is receiving the certification for their first time, as well as Outlet Beach in Sandbanks Provincial Park who is receiving the blue flag for their 2nd time this year.
