A flood watch remains in effect for the Lower Trent Conservation area, stretching from Grafton to Quinte West and from Lake Ontario to Rice Lake.
The weather system that moved through the weekend brought with it 70 millimetres of mixed precipiation and we saw an additional 20 to 35 millimetres today (Mon. Apr. 16).
Water levels on many local creeks and streams are reaching top bank conditions. The forecasted levels on these watercourses and rain and snow melt will sharply elevate runoff, continuing the risk of flooding roads, backyards, and basements in low-lying areas.
The public is urged to use extreme caution around all watercourses due to strong currents, cold water temperatures, and slippery stream banks. Parents and caregivers are advised to keep children away from all waterways. Areas around dams, culverts, and bridges should be avoided at all times.
The flood watch will be in effect until Wednesday.
