A former school board assistant in Cobourg has been found not guilty of sexually assaulting a minor. Devin Langille was charged with sexual assault and sexual intereference in May of 2016 due to events alleged to have occurred between 2010 and 2012. The trial ended on December 18 and according to NorthumberlandNews.com, Justice Susan Woodley stated that the Crown had not proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Langille is guilty of the offences. Woodley says the complainant, who is now 16, was the only person to have actual knowledge of the alleged offences, admitted to lying to defence during cross-examination and contacted two witnesses before trial to tell them her version of events. The justice added that she has empathy towards the 16-year-old because of the nature of the trial, but she couldn’t let that sway her decision.
