OPP are a bit discouraged after a recent blitz focusing on transport truck drivers.
Officials say that despite giving advance notice, officers stopped close to 3500 commercial motor vehicles, and laid more than 1800 charges and took 71 unsafe vehicles off the road.
OPP Sgt Kerry Schmidt say this is part of the Operation Safe Trucking intiative a couple weeks ago where officers were stationed inside transport trucks after authorities began to notice a steep rise in fatalaties involving transport trucks.
The charges include 223 distracted driving charges, 336 speeders, 111 were following too close. Other violations include 185 charges for defective equipment and 537 charges laid for improper documentation which includes log books.
During the same time frame, a number of passenger vehicles were stopped for distracted driving and speeding.
