This year Canada broke records when it came to blue flag certification.
Twenty-seven beaches and nine marinas will be flying the sign of eco excellence this year.
Blue Flag Program Manager with Environmental Defence Kelsey Scarfone explains how the world known certification breaks down its criteria.
When a beach or Marina is interested in earning a Blue Flag, they send in their application into Blue Flag Canada who then sends it to a national jury of experts.
Joining Canada’s record-breaking year is Trent Port Marina in Quinte West, who is receiving the certification for their first time.
Also joining the ranks of eco excellence are Victoria Beach in Cobourg, receiving their flag for the third time, as well as Outlet Beach in Sandbanks Provincial Park who is receiving the blue flag for their second time this year.
