600 kilograms, or just over 1,322 pounds of fresh chicken is being donated to the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank.
The announcement was made yesterday (Dec 16) at the food bank’s new headquarters at 700 D’Arcy Street in Cobourg.
Tim Klompmaker is the director for our district (District 9, which spans from Oshawa to the Quebec border) with Chicken Farmers of Ontario, and he says announcements like this are so important.
He says without dedicated staff and volunteers to sort through and pack the chicken, it would be a much more difficult to make big donations like this.
Klompmaker adds that this new chapter of the Fare Share Food Bank is sure to be a great one.
These fresh chicken donations are made by local farmers who are allowed to donate up to 700 kilograms per year through CFO Cares.
