Just over a week to go until the Coldest Night of the Year in Port Hope.
It has nothing to do with the weather forecast on February 20th, but everything to do with raising critical dollars for Green Wood Coalition as they work to support those in our community that are hungry, homeless or hurting.
Phil Redford, event director of CNOY, says this year’s event being forced to move virtual hasn’t negatively impacted fundraising.
In fact, he says it’s just the opposite.
And Redford says the best part is, typically, most of the money comes in right before the walk.
The event director also shares what he’d like the community to be thinking about in the lead-up to Coldest Night of the Year.
He adds that opioid deaths are also on the rise, so money raised through this event is more crucial than ever.
Redford says participants can do their 2 or 5 kilometre walk any time now, they don’t need to necessarily wait for the 20th.
He also says that despite not being able to gather in person for this year’s walk, there’s still going to be something to bring the participants together.
