Today is Excellent Educators Day, brought to you by Fleming College Muskoka-Kawarthas SSM!
It’s an exclusive look into the lives’ of some of Northumberland’s best and brightest educators, including Nick Foley.
He is well-known for the many charitable organizations that he supports, in the Quinte region. He’s a college professor, an entrepreneur, a speaker and one of the co-founders of We Be Us, an online clothing company that supports shelters and charitable groups across the country. Foley tells us more about his career in entrepreneurship and the creation of 20k Sock Day.
Through the 20k Sock Day initiative (now in its third year,) this year’s goal is to collect 100,000 items of personal protective equipment, to donate to charities across Canada.
In its first year, We Be Us set a goal of collecting 20,000 pairs of socks for 20k Sock Day, to donate to shelters in Canada (28,000 pairs of socks were collected.) In their second year, their goal was 50,000 pairs of socks (67,000 pairs of socks were collected, to donate to shelters in Canada.)
Foley is also the new co-ordinator of Loyalist College’s Public Relations and Event Management program. He says he looks forward to learning from and working with his students each day at the college, adding that the post-secondary program has transitioned online, over the past year.
Foley says this reflects how the public relations industry has also been adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic.
