Campbellford Memorial Hospital is experiencing a surge in patient admissions, and is currently at 140 per cent capacity.
Interim President/CEO Eric Hanna said that while there are a handful of cases of COVID-19 at the hospital, the issue is a lack of long term care beds in the area. As a result they are stuck in the hospital until space opens up.
Hanna said it’s been difficult operating at such a high capacity.
Hanna said they are currently in talks to develop a plan for a new hospital and long-term care home that would be able to provide more beds.
