The County Council received a presentation from the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit’s Drug Strategy.
Dr. Natalie Bocking, the Medical Officer of Health, and Dane Record, Chair of the Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland (HKLN) Drug Strategy, visited the County Council to discuss the Drug Poisoning Crisis. Their presentation shared the latest opioid poisoning statistics in the County and surrounding areas. It also introduced the four-pillar approach aimed at addressing the complex issue of drug poisoning in our communities.
The HKLN Drug Strategy involves collaboration with various community partners and emphasizes the importance of an ongoing dialogue between decision-makers and individuals with personal experiences related to drug issues.
Among the current priorities for the group are conducting a needs assessment in the coming fall, appointing a dedicated Drug Strategy Coordinator, continuing community discussions to tackle the crisis, and developing policy solutions through the DSNO framework.
