Two Cobourg residents are facing charges after police say they were called to an altercation at a business where one individual was allegedly in possession of a hatchet.
On Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, at about 4:30 p.m., the Cobourg Police Service said police responded to a business in the King Street and Division Street area after a report of a disturbance.
Two individuals were allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation inside the business, said police, on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024.
“One individual was (allegedly) in possession of a hatchet and chased the second individual out of the business,” said police.
There were no injuries reported.
Police said they located the individuals. As a result of the investigation, several charges were laid.
Police said Charles Bond, 41, of Cobourg, was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of fail to comply with a probation order. The accused was held for a show cause hearing, added police.
According to police, further investigation revealed during the altercation in the store a second individual allegedly threatened a store clerk when asked to leave the store, said police.
Jamie Moore, 46, of Cobourg, was arrested and charged with assault, reported police.
The accused was released on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
