Northumberland OPP say an investigation is underway after a fire at a residence in Cramahe and one person was found deceased at the residence.
However, currently, the fire isn’t being treated as suspicious.
On Monday, May 6, 2024, OPP confirmed an investigation was underway and the death of an 85-year-old man.
The morning prior – Sunday, May 5, at about 7:30 a.m. – emergency crews responded to a report of a residential fire in the Township of Cramahe.
“As a result, an 85-year-old male from Cramahe was located deceased in the residence,” said OPP, on Monday afternoon.
Police said at this time, the fire is believed to be non-suspicious; however, the Northumberland OPP crime unit, in conjunction with OPP forensic identification services, the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM), and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario, are continuing to investigate the incident.
“Officers will continue to hold the scene for the ongoing investigation. Updates will be provided when available.” said police, on late Monday afternoon.
Police highlighted Peterborough Northumberland Victim Services (705-748-0324) as a potential resource for anyone who may have witnessed the fire and wants to speak to victim services.
Police provided no other details.
