June is Seniors Month and 2018 marks the 34th Annual Seniors Month.
Hamilton Township annually recognizes one member from the municipality and honours him or her at a Council meeting.
The ‘Senior of the Year’ presentation was made today (June 12th) at the Hamilton Township Municipal Office.
David Piccini, MPP Elect, presented the award to Ewart Timlin of Cobourg.
Aging shouldn’t prevent any of us from leading fulfilling lives. Seniors are one of the fastest growing populations in our country, and many seniors are leading healthy and vibrant lives. This stage of your life brings the opportunity to pursue new goals, reactivate life-long interests and spend time with loved ones.
Ewart Timlin, 76, lives in Cobourg now, but was a resident of Hamilton Township for 75 years. He said this award was a surprise but he figured something fishy was going on.
He tells us one teacher was very influential.
Throughout June, municipalities and community organizations are encouraged to hold Seniors’ Month events including award ceremonies, recognition events, socials and seniors’ information and active living fairs.
When asked what this award means to him, he said it’s been the most satisfactory of all the awards he’s been given over the years.
This award is given by a municipality to recognize an outstanding senior who, after age 65, enriches the social, cultural or civic life of the community.
As seniors continue to contribute to our community, we can all benefit from their wisdom, friendship, and experience.
