Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the area.
Weather officials say that conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts.
Conditions will become favourable for severe thunderstorms to develop this afternoon as a cold front moves through.
The main threat is damaging wind gusts of 90 to 100 km/h.
Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Hail and locally heavy rain are also possible. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
