Tony Jenkins is running for council in Port Hope.
He’s lived in the municipality for eight years, but has a rich family history locally and has been doing business there since the 70s.
The Ward 1 candidate says he’s always had an interest in municipal politics, but it was the issues surrounding 65 Ward Street that made him put his name on the ballot.
Jenkins is retired from a 42 year career as a restoration contractor, and he says the history behind the old hospital and the current shape of the building is why he’s fighting to keep it upright.
He adds that socially responsible housing is another issue on his radar.
Jenkins is one of 11 candidates running in Ward 1 and one of 18 names appearing on Port Hope’s ballot.
